Museum of Art

The Museum of Art got its start in 1925, when John Ringling decided to build an art museum to show off various pieces he and his wife Mable found and enjoyed. The museum first opened in 1930 and showed off a wide range of European paintings and other objects from around the world. The Museum is currently working on reinstalling all 21 of the original galleries, but don’t worry, there’s still plenty to see here! From the permanent collection to the rotating exhibits and fascinating programs going on all year long, there’s something new to discover around every corner.

The museum was established in 1948 and holds everything from costumes and cannons to posters, wagons, photos, and so much more. You can truly step back in time to see the original workings of the circus and see how props, costumes, and the show itself has evolved over the years. If you’ve ever been curious about any aspect of the circus, you can find all of your answers right here!

The Ca’ d’Zan in Sarasota was actually the home of John and Mable Ringling, so visitors can get an idea of what the lives of the couple were truly like. The Ringlings loved to travel throughout Europe and crafted Ca’ d’Zan in a Venetian Gothic style, thanks to the talent of architect Dwight James Baum. The house is more than 36,000 square feet and is full of opulent features inside and out. This establishment was opened to the public in 1946 and has been through a huge restoration costing more than $15 million!
